As I worked with my perfectly crafted type, precision balanced and crafted
with its strong key lines and rugged athletic type fat and clear and
legible from a hundred yards away. Adding my arches or arcs, its bow-ties or
flags or rises in its more whimsical moments. Occasionally a strong and
manly script can be used but ONLY with the perfect tail sweep to offset it!
After long loooonngggg stretches of this I yearn for my misspent youth and
my hand crafted cartoon fonts with ragged edges or made of puffy clouds of
exhaust smoke and trimmed by flames that erupt from ridiculously long and
convoluted tail pipes that issue from even more elaborate and improbable
motor vehicles. And of course barely legible with purposeful misspellings
and reversed letters! At these times I like to take a few minutes and craft
something just for fun. This is one such effort. I think my favorite part of
this is that the artist drawing the model reminds me of Frazetta (RIP) even
as the model reminds me of the lovely Frazetta girls. That indeed takes me
back to my younger days! Pouring over beloved issues of Creepy, Erie and of
course the incomparable Vampirella. That scantily clad heroine / monster who
was the quintessence of 60s exploitative hotness and who fueled my pubescent
fantasies with an edge of danger…
Maybe I’ll scan some of my old Warren comics for a post on nostalgic
inspiration. In the meantime, I hope you enjoy my little moment of self
indulgence.
Thanks for stopping by.
